    MANAGING INTERNATIONAL TRADE AND INVESTMENT
    Casebook

by Debora L Spar (Harvard Business School, USA)

List of Notes and Cases (203k)
Chapter 1: Lenzing AG: Expanding in Indonesia (2,257k)

    About the Author

Debora Spar is a Professor at Harvard Business School, where she works on issues of business-government relations and the political environment of international commerce. Professor Spar's current research focuses on issues of foreign trade and investment, examining how firms compete in foreign markets and how government policies shape and constrain their options. At Harvard, Professor Spar is Chair of the BGIE (Business, Government and the International Economy) Unit, and teaches courses on the politics of international business, comparative capitalism, and economic development. She teaches and consults for a number of multinational corporations, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations. Professor Spar is the author of numerous publications in academic and public policy journals.

Despite the ease with which it is often conducted, doing business across borders is not the same as doing it at home. Rather, it entails a whole new set of managerial challenges: re-assessing competitive advantage; evaluating diverse political environments and legal structures; considering the impact of currency fluctuations and trading regimes; and understanding widely disparate cultures and business norms. Using the cases presented in this book, instructors can help their students build a framework of analysis that will enable them to understand the challenges of international trade and investment and master the opportunities these represent.
