CONTINUUM MECHANICS VIA PROBLEMS AND EXERCISES
    Part I: Theory and Problems
    Part II: Answers and Solutions

edited by Margarita E Eglit (Moscow State Univ.) & Dewey H Hodges (Georgia Inst. of Tech.)

This volume is intended to help graduate-level students of Continuum Mechanics become more proficient in its applications through the solution of analytical problems. Published as two separate books β€” Part I on Theory and Problems with Part II providing Solutions to the problems β€” professors may also find it quite useful in preparing their lectures and examinations. Part I includes a brief theoretical treatment for each of the major areas of Continuum Mechanics (fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, elastic and inelastic solids, electricity, dimensional analysis, and so on), as well as the references for further reading. The bulk of Part II consists of about 1000 solved problems. The book includes bibliographical references and index.

    Contents:
    • Part I: Theory and Problems:
      • Basic Concepts Used for Description of Motion and Deformation of a Continuum
      • General Laws and Equations of Continuum Mechanics
      • Thermodynamics of Continua
      • Discontinuity Surfaces in Continuum Media
      • Fluid Mechanics
      • Elasticity Theory
      • Inelastic Solids
      • Basic Notions of Relativistic Kinematics and Dynamics. General Properties of Electromagnetic Field
      • Models of Media Interacting with Electromagnetic Field
      • Dimensional Analysis and Modelling
    • Part II: Answers and Solutions:
      • Basic Concepts Used for Description of Motion and Deformation of a Continuum

Readership: Graduate level textbook for mechanical engineering students.

β€œThe brief discussions are compactly written and will serve as a good review for someone who already has been introduced to the material. For the instructor the set provides a useful source of good worked problems.”
