A new review series on coastal and ocean engineering will be published annually. Each volume will contain four or five comprehensive review articles written by scientists and engineers. These articles will serve not only as a means to separate lasting knowledge from the ephemeral, but also as guides to the literature and stimuli to thought and future research.

The aim of this review series is to present critical commentaries of the state-of-the-art knowledge in the field of coastal and ocean engineering. Each article will review and illuminate the development of scientific understanding of a specific engineering topic. Our plans for this review series include, among other topics, articles on sediment transport, ocean waves, surf zone hydrodynamics, coastal and offshore structures, ocean outfall, seafloor dynamics and tsunamis. Critical reviews on engineering designs and practices in different countries will also be included.

In the first volume, four review articles have been confirmed: Robert G. Dean of University of Florida will present a review on cross-shore sediment transport; Mostafa A. Foda of U. C. at Berkeley on seafloor dynamics; Harry Yeh of University of Washington on free surface dynamics; and Philip L-F Liu of Cornell University on wave propagation.
