Knowledge and innovation play an increasingly vital role in technological advances and the transformation of society. The transformation of society form agrarian to industrial and now to information and knowledge has largely been brought about as a result of the accumulation and increasingly sophisticated deployment of knowledge.
Knowledge management looks at a wide range of issues that involves information management, knowledge acquisition, knowledge sharing, organizational culture, organizational learning, communities of practice, best practices, and learning organizations.
The emergence of the knowledge based economy, the threat of globalization, and the intensification of competition have profound implications for organizational growth, adaptability, sustainability and survival. For many organizations and countries alike, innovation and knowledge management are no longer luxury items, but rather necessities and a means of sustaining economic development and competitiveness.
The Innovation and Knowledge Management series focuses on issues related to innovation and knowledge management, the role of knowledge management practices in innovation and vice versa. This could be at the level of organization or society, and will take place in diverse cultural settings.
