Series on Modern Tribology
Editor-in-chief: Yip Wah Chung
Tribology, the science of friction, wear and lubrication, is
traditionally a discipline within mechanical engineering. As the
performance of mechanical components are pushed towards higher
stresses, speeds and temperatures, however, it has become increasingly
necessary to foster a better understanding of the principles of
tribology among materials scientists.
One important objective of this series, in addition to developing an
undergraduate textbook in tribology, will be to develop review volumes
addressing some of the interdisciplinary topics in modern tribology
including: surface science; hard coatings; solid lubricants and new
tribo-materials.
Each review volume will be tutorial in nature and will include
examples of current research. The emphasis, however, will be on
fundamental issues with a view to providing a long-lasting resource
for research scientists and engineers involved in tribology
studies.
